My Astrological story
Astrology has become a passion and lens that I love to share. This started around my first year of undergrad. Prior to this, I was interested in how my birthday was somehow an indicator to who I was, but found that the descriptions felt like not enough, and basic.. there was more to me, and anyone really, than the few words that described “my sign.” Before moving out, my mom gave me a few astrology books that she bought in her early 20’s when she went through her phase of interest in the topic. They were dusty, abandoned on the shelf in our garage. To both of our surprise, this became my biggest subject of research, focus of energy, point of reflection, and conversation topic with anyone who would listen. There was so much more than just the description of me as a Virgo, and the amounts of information felt endless, which motivated me. Everything I read felt validating, and eye opening, noticing patterns among myself and personal relationships.
Ever since I was a young, even before these astrology days, I was fascinated with understanding relationships, what makes people tick, what makes us each unique, and how to be my full self. I often felt misunderstood and projected upon. I believe this experience lead to the gift of adaptability, empathy, reading between the lines, and seeing the lesson in every experience. The more I read about my birth chart, all these parts of myself that I knew to be true I found in different parts of my chart. Then I would read others charts, and I would see that same level of validation, and challenge!
As this passion and skill grew, I realized that the work of reading a birth chart for someone is so much more than a small party trick. So here we are! I enjoy sharing what I know with people, and giving them those same experiences of deep self love and understanding, as well as highlighting “challenges” which I always view as points of learning. There is no such thing as a bad sign, a bad aspect, a bad birth chart. Only lessons and opportunities for new perspectives.
By day, I am a high school math teacher in Portland, Oregon. I work with youth I believe in them, I am inspired by them, I learn from them, and because there is no other place I would rather give my entire heart to than the leaders and change-makers of our future. I distrust many aspects of the education system, and work tirelessly to serve my students, to impact change that is in my control, and regularly address and challenge systemic and personal racism. Anti-racism and astrology, both lenses show dependable patterns and truths that seem to be uncomfortable sometimes, but are a source of reflection, learning, growth, and necessary change.
I appreciate my friends, families, colleagues and strangers for their listening and encouragement. I hope to connect with you soon!
